Free UPS monitoring and automatic shutdown tool for Windows
ProgramTECH VOLT is a hobby project that started from a very simple need: I wanted to use the official software that came with my UPS, but it quickly turned into a frustrating experience. I spent hours restarting my computer, searching the manufacturer’s website for drivers and updates, and trying different setups — yet the installer itself kept failing before I could even start using the program. After wasting so much time on something that should have been simple, I decided to build my own lightweight and reliable tool instead.
The result is VOLT: a small, free, and easy-to-use Windows application that monitors your UPS and performs an automatic, safe shutdown during power failures.
⚡ VOLT was not created as a commercial product, but as a practical solution for everyday users who simply want their system to shut down safely when the power goes out.
VOLT communicates with your UPS using the standard USB HID Power Device Class protocol, which is supported by most modern consumer and office UPS devices without installing extra drivers. This means:
In practice, if your UPS is connected via USB and Windows recognizes it as a battery or power device, VOLT will be able to monitor it and trigger a safe shutdown.
Many official UPS tools are heavy, complex, or limited to a single brand. VOLT was designed to be the opposite: simple, fast, and universal. It is ideal for home users, hobbyists, or small offices that just need a reliable way to protect their computer and data.
VOLT comes with a standard Inno Setup installer. Just download, run the installer, and you are ready to go. No complicated configuration is required — there are no annoying questions about whether your UPS is on COM1 or COM2, and you don’t have to pick your device from a confusing list that often doesn’t even include the model you actually own. If your UPS is connected via USB and recognized by Windows, VOLT will simply work out of the box.
